Craft Room Organization Heidi Swapp Inspired Pegboard

I was inspired by Heidi Swapp's large striped wall
in her craft room and wanted to paint gold stripes on
my craft room pegboard.

The pegboard measures 6 feet wide by 3 feet tall and I am here to encourage you, because I made and installed this all by myself! You probably can too!

I call it the American Crafts wall! Almost everything on here is under the American Crafts umbrella of companies! Love them!

STEP 1: Tape off and paint in color of choice. I used Rustoleum Metallic Gold Spray Paint

STEP 2: PEEL TAPE OFF TO REVEAL CRISP CLEAN EDGES :)

STEP 3 AND 4: Miter your painted frame/molding (number the back as you go for easier placement later) and hang by 1"x2" boards secured to the studs with long wood screws, I used a stud finder to locate them. Tip for easily hanging the 1x2's by yourself---I marked the edge of the boards once I got them level. I found the studs and marked them with a pencil, then drilled through the level 1x2's into the wall with a drill bit same diameter as your wood screws. I then placed a long nail through the hole created with the drill to hold the 1x2's in the wall while I secured them with screws at the other end:)

STEP 5: Use Liquid Nails or Loc-Tite (construction adhesive of choice) to attach moldings and clamp  with heavy duty clamps until it grabs hold. Then pre drill small holes for the finishing brads and hammer them in through the molding and into the 1"x2" secured boards. Countersink them with a countersink tool so they are less noticeable when covered with caulking.

STEP 6: NO PIC- APPLY CAULKING TO THE FRAME'S BRAD HOLES AND  CORNERS TO HIDE THE SEAM.

STEP 7: Have fun hanging and organizing your stuff!!!

I added the raw pine boards that I cut with my jig-saw by pegboard shelf hooks.

Target dollar bins 2/$1 from about six months ago finally have a spot.

 Planning Station below the pegboard.

Close up my "Shine Bright" and letters "A" and "L" for Artful Leigh:)

Wide angle lens used to capture the entire wall.

Here is a short You-Tube video about this project if you would like to watch, thank you for visiting and have fun organizing!!

Planner, Blogging, Photo Station in my Craft Room Organizing and Updating Time! or Workspace Wednesday!

Welcome to the newly updated Planner area,  and insert song here " I'm all about that gold, 'bout that gold,  no clutter"!  Adding a few gold touches and organizing to get rid of what's not working in this space and create an uplifting, useful space for what is working right now.

It's like coming home to your professional barista after having instant hotel room coffee, in other words, REFRESHING. You know what I'm talking about, don't you get the urge to update and organize every January?  So here we go...
See the new gold stuff? Squee!

Hit the Target Dollar Spot for some mint and gold goodness, and made a little inspirational card to go in this frame from a friend. The Becky Higgins Project Life solid color cards from the Blush Core kit, and some Heidi Swapp Foil Value Kit from Michael's chipboard( the diamond) made for a quick update. Just wrote "Shine Bright" with a Sharpie Paint Pen in Gold.

This is where I use the different planners to stay organized and the gold dot planner from Sugar and Paper at Target matches my new IPhone. Yay. So it is my Project Life Planner for this year and I write down everything that happens each day and which photos are taken with what technology. I will show a sample of the inside if you are interested. Ordered two more planners today, one specifically for Bible Study, and my first Kikki K. Planner in Gold!! They are on the way!

Some gold bits and Gold washi tape, for decorating my Project Life album and my planners.

Thanks for joining me today for Workspace Wednesday, Planner Station update!!

Friday Title Card Series: Using Sketch Two From My Free Printable

Using Sketch Two from my free printable sketches (right side bar) ,  I was able to make a five minute title card with a Midnight Core Kit Project Life card.

Love the look of the lines with the circles. I also love adding circular elements to a Project Life spread to soften all the straight lines. Could also add enamel dots and splatters, and circle die cuts, in odd numbers as well.

Here it is in the Week 14, 2014 Project Life book I am working on currently. Love these design B page protectors for weeks when you have lots of phone photos and not so much on the DSLR photos:)
Thank you for joining me today!!

How to Organize a Project Life Station

Here is my newly organized Project Life Station in my craft room, but I have some organizational tips that would work for any area. I will highlight each section and give tips below the photos. While each person uses a different set of supplies to make their Project Life albums, there are still many common items we need to complete the task. You really can complete your pages with nothing more than a journaling pen, Project Life Core Kit, Album, and pocket pages, and those are totally beautiful!!! For my personal style, I like a few embellishments,  seven or more 4x6 photos, and lots of journaling.  After all I do have a big craft room AND 15 YEARS of collected scrapbook supplies to use up:)

Tip #1)  Before I assembled my PL station, I wrote down all the supplies I had to collect from around my room to complete a Project Life spread. I realize almost every Professional Organizer has given this tip and I ignored it! It really does help though, ha!
Tip #2) Add vertical storage whenever possible. This distressed wood/metal organizer from Target really helped to get a more functional area. I had a few mini-albums displayed here before and moved them to display elsewhere. Now I have nine cubbies of storage where there was none!!
Tip #3) Use labels that have removable adhesive or that you can erase and relabel easily. These erasable chalkboard labels from Staples (MArtha Stewart Line) work well since I change favorites often:)

Here is a little sample of the die cut pail, that holds Cropper Hopper Embellishment boxes with my most used die cuts by shape.
Tip #4) Group like items. Simple, I used what I had on hand.

My most used die cuts are: circle, flower, numbers, butterflies, days of the week, Week No., stars, and hearts. Punched in white since I have lots of ink pads to recolor if need be.
Tip #5) Smaller scale die cuts, and punches work well on the smaller canvas of a 4x6, or 3x4 Project Life card.

I had these organizers already, but moved them to this station and reorganized the contents to suit my needs right now. Added PL Inserts( smaller than 12x12)  for when I need more photo or journaling room in a week. Added all the free printable Core Kit indexes from BeckyHiggins.com for all my current kits. Labeled in the aqua folder above" PL Core Card Index" so that I don't have to search through the boxes for a specific card. This is much quicker for me.

Here is a close up of how I labeled the inserts so I could find them easier; again old Cropper Hopper Paper File Dividers.
Tip#6) Label how you search. Easy enough.  Instead of going around the room to find page protectors, now I just have this central location for my most used inserts.

I found these aqua- lidded shoeboxes at Target $4.99/ five. Now my Studio Calico PRoject Life and Card Kit papers are organized by color, since thats how I search for them!

More of my most used supplies:(from bottom Left) Green Bucket: Embossing Stylus ( for scoring fold-overs for extra pics) craft knife, tweezers, heart punch, star punches.
Aqua Buckets: circle punches (1.75", and 1.25") and self inking circular journaling stamp
Pink Bucket: circle punch(1.5")
Sharp, Detail, and sewing scissors, another circle punch, and the Pebbles Inc / Studio Calico Large roller stamp, a Tonic arrow punch, and my Tim Holtz stapler!
Top Row: PRoject Life Mini Kits, My pink ATG, Craft-Mate cases that lock for all the Studio Calico Kit Embellishments organized by color( this is a years' worth).

Thank you for visiting and I will be posting more Project Life organization soon!!

2014 Project Life: Week one and two

Feels so good to have completed the entire 52 weeks of Project Life 2013, and now to blog the six weeks I have done for 2014!!  For week one, I used the Midnight Edition Core Kit, and one Becky Higgins blank grid card for the aqua paint splatter and life die cut ( Simon Says Stamp: Life Family Love die). There will be lots of interior design photos for the first three months of 2014, since I basically painted and redesigned the whole downstairs of our house. New curtains, new furniture, rugs, lamps, pillows and so on etc. Hopefully I can squeeze in as many family photos as I have, but this is our life right now. So I am going with it!

Week two I used the new Coral Edition Core Kit from Becky Higgins LLC.  I love this kit, because it seems to coordinate with the photos and decor in my life right now!! Lots of journaling, and just a few embellishments like washi tape and enamel dots. Washi tape is from Studio Calico via Pebbles Inc. and the enamel dots are MME " Cut and Paste" line.

Thank you for joining me on this 2014 adventure with Project Life supplies!!

The Sparrow Painting

In taking time to be creative, and listening to the Holy Spirit, I find peace and artistry can come together. This is my first acrylic painting of a bird ever, and I was happy to give it to one of my very best friends and sister in the Lord. I was inspired by her favorite hymn "His Eye Is On The Sparrow", and Matthew 10:29-31 "Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. And even the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows"

For all those in need of peace today, I pray you find it. Thank you for visiting today.

Gray Paint: A Quick Laundry Room Makeover

Hi Everyone! Welcome to my quick makeover using Lowe's Olympic One Paint in the color Secret Passage! This color matches my hall bath, and I LOVE that it also covered the red paint in here in one coat. AWESOME! I added some Macbeth Contact Paper, and Homegoods baskets for clean clothes. One of my favorite things in the room is......

This free download from "Howdy Honey".  I simply Painted a frame on hand, added gray washi tape and some scrapbook paper and tada! All the colors in the room are on here, and it was free. SMILE.

My other fav in this room are the two totes from the etsy shop Molly and Lucy . Can you say " Hello chevron beauties, I must have you"? I know I did.

The Macbeth Contact paper from amazon totally matches the chevron totes, and it looks like I planned it that way:)

It looks bigger in here! IT could be that I cleaned out all items that don't have to do with laundry, or cleaning. Like why did I have extension cords, dog leashes, etc, etc.  You might have to shield your eyes for the before and after, seriously this hurt my eyes:)

Uh, yikes! That's embarrassing, but just keeping it real. Thank you so much for joining me on this makeover my whole downstairs journey:) Here is a sneak peek of what room is next......

Join me next week for my Formal Living Room reveal!!!!

Gray Bathroom Redo for $50!

Paint: Olympic One in Secret Passage= $26
Towels: Target = $14
Soap Dispenser: Target= $10
The rest of the artwork and decor I repurposed, and painted, or had up in my craft room for a "someday" project:)

Side by side the room definitely looks larger without the border at the top, and without the plants. A visitor even asked if I got a bigger mirror! Whoopwhoop!!

Already had the shell, perfume bottle, and antique Kraft Cheese Mold.

The gold framed print is about 20 years old, from our first house, and I printed the shell onto white card stock(an image from the Graphic's Fairy) to cover the old artwork. Used a silver metallic sharpie marker to cover the black mat around the shell print. The bottom left small canvas, i just gessoed over and painted the ombre gray, then hot glued found shell over it. Scrapbook paper and chipboard letters in the Michael's plain wood frame, and my fav part of this room now is...................

This photo tray I got a Hobby Lobby a couple of years ago, and now it tells the story of our beach family vacations over the last 20 years. We didn't take a family vacation for ten whole years when the kids were young, from 1995-2005, but we are making up for that now.

The circular vine item (above left) is a metal plate for holding candles, I repurposed and spray painted high gloss white(Krylon) , then hot glued a Tim Holtz photo clip on and used an Instagram photo and transparency I had on hand.   Thanks for visiting today! I am off to recover from the 17 hour days of this redo. Feeling so sick, but enjoying my new powder room!
