The Heritage line from Crate Paper by Maggie Holmes has exquisite colors and I tried out a modern design to highlight them.
Notice the curved shapes in the background. I custom-matched watercolor to match the paper in the Heritage collection.
STEP ONE: Hand cut your shapes from three colors of patterned paper. Stitch around the shapes. Lay them on the background without adhering to get an idea where to add your watercolor splotches.
STEP TWO: ADD watercolor in curved shapes around the background to coordinate with the patterned paper shapes.
STEP THREE: Add the photo and embellishments as shown above, and journal on the back or facing page if you like.
Hello crafty friends! I have THREE Tips for you to master the Memorydex Craze! Three reasons to start a Memorydex Box today!
Most of us have seen the new take on Memorydex cards, originally started by Heidi Swapp! Since I have created five of these boxes and started using them in my everyday crafting, I thought I would share some tips for mastering this craze!
1) Lots of different artists use a warm-up exercise to get past the blank page stare. Hand letterers use practice strokes, watercolor artists use color palettes, and basic brush strokes, and writers use prompts. So, I thought, why can't paper crafters follow this same thinking? START SMALL WITH A MEMORYDEX DIVIDER AS A WARM UP!
2) VIEW THE CARDSas a place to catalog ideas. I use the plain lined cards between the dividers to sort sketches, list Mixed Media ideas, write out scripture, and the ideas keep coming! Creating the dividers also gives you new ideas for your other paper crafts!! Creating a chunky divider is a freeing way to create with no rules. Load it up as fluffy as you want to!
3) Start a new Bible Study, scripture writing, or other ideas I listed above, and it is a great way to flip through your most recent ideas and thoughts written on these little cards! This Memorydex for winter holds my January Bible Study. START WITH ANY GROUP OF CRAFTS THAT SUIT YOUR STYLE! Every crafter has a niche, maybe group sketches by number of photos, watercolor techniques, mixed media prompts, journaling prompts, etc. Brainstorm a list of uses, and try these ideas in a way that works for you!
Here are the dividers in this box...
Divider one, with machine stitching and the Crate Paper Merry Days paper added as the base to hold the flower. This one gave me ideas for future paper crafts.
Divider two has an acetate sheet to make the shaker background, Dollar Tree snowflake and a layered washi tape rosette from my latest You-tube videos. It was so fun to play with this card and make it super chunky! (Tulle from Frank Garcia for Prima)
All three cards that divide each week of the study. I will be adding process videos for these coming soon!

I have a few new ideas for you! I will share how to create a layered Memorydex Card with Crate Paper Merry Days!
Look at all the dimension!! You might be saying, "I don't make Memorydex Cards" but these tips will having you wishing you could try them out because they give you inspiration for all other kinds of paper crafts!! Creating other projects always gives me inspiration for layouts, how about you?
TIP #1:use Washi tape from a collection along the edge of white card stock, and create a rosette that looks like patterned paper.
TIP #2: use Card packs from a collection for a super sturdy Memorydex Card!
I loved adding eyelet lace to the edge of this rosette, made with the Tim Holtz Paper Rosette Die, first edition. The Crate
Paper Merry Days collection is so perfect! I can't get enough!!

Hello friends! I have a new project for you, and it is great to give as a present or as a treat for yourself! I created a DIY Memorydex Box that looks like old barn wood!
I made the dividers cards and the blank cards with my Memorydex Punch from Heidi Swapp, and the Memorydex Dies.
A close up of the first divider card in the winter category. I chose to represent all the seasons, and create divider cards for each season so the recipient can add memory verses, quotes, and other ideas for each season.

I am so excited to be a guest designer for Elle's Studio and create projects to Document December 2019. For week two, I am sharing some easy organization tips to help you play in your December albums.
I made a distressed toolbox into a farmhouse caddy to hold all of my Document December supplies for embellishing pages. The front sections store my die cuts and shapes as well as stickers, acrylic and wood veneer and the large back section stores puffy stickers and stamps. Having everything divided by type helps me locate it quickly. Keeping my supplies out and easily accessible helps the project along with a dedicated place for everything.
The second container holds all the base supplies: 6″ x 8″ paper, 4″ x 6″, and 3″ x 4″ tags from the Document December 2019 Kit. I divided the 3″ x 4″ tags into two sections: journaling tags on the right and filler cards on the left. I divided up the cards based on the way my mind works, and the way I use these supplies.
With my containers gathered together, I can play with the Document December products from left to right. First, my 6″ x 8″ album with pocket pages inside, then the container of base pages, then the tool caddy of embellishments. Having the products out and visible helps me to stay on track. You could also add a notebook to track things you want to journal, or note that in your planner like I do!
Thank you for joining me today, and I hope this organizational idea helps you.
Hello friends! Have you enjoyed seeing a farmhouse trend in DIY creations? I have been so inspired by the farmhouse trend, and made some new Memorydex Style cards for my Farmhouse Dollar Store DIY Memorydex Dupe!
I used the dies from Heidi Swapp to cut the Heritage line from Crate Paper for the background. Then added on heritage cupboard, die cuts, and some Washi tape from Crate Paper.
So, here is the card in my Farmhouse Style Dollar Store DIY Memorydex Dupe! I will link a video below where I make the box.

Oh hello friends! My completed October Album is ready for sharing, and I am thankful to have all 31 stories in this pocket page album for the month of October!
Hello friends! I have a new DIY craft with a Farmhouse style! This time, I am prepping my Elle's Studio supplies for the Document December 2019 album.
I made a DIY Farmhouse style sign for the caddy with a free font from dafont.com, and added a buffalo check ribbon and some Dollar Tree winter picks.
I have the stamps from www.shopellesstudio.com in the back, die cuts on the left, stickers in the center, and acrylic words and wood veneer on the right. This way, all the embellishments for my album will be easy to flip through, and won't get lost on a desktop.
Hi friends! I hope you watch my video below to see how I organize the three new Alex Units I recently added to my craft room! After being on the American Crafts Design Team for two years, I had to reorganize many boxes of new product! That's a fun thing for you, if you love to see organizational videos! :)

For this day, I focused on my little self-care break. I took a trip to Starbucks for a Pumpkin Creme Cold Brew. I don't head to Starbucks everyday, but when I do it is usually for a pumpkin treat in the Fall. What are some little things you are thankful for today?
Hello friends! I have been trying out new ways to add stories to my Junk Journal. This outfit of the day painting in gouache is one of my new ideas! It was super easy to do!
I used Paper Fashion Gouache and Watercolor Paper from Canson. I folded it in half so that I could slip it into the elastics in my latest junk journal. I hand-lettered with my Tombow Fudenosuke Brush Pen (Hard Tip). I hope you take the time to create something and relax today! Thanks for visiting today!
Hello friends! Leigh here, sharing a set of three simple cards with the brand new Willow collection from One Canoe Two! This collection has lots of pretty watercolor elements, so I chose to create stamped rose gold floral accents to coordinate with all three cards. By creating all the stamping first, you can make quite a few simple cards with the addition of some die cuts.
Starting with the new Vicki Boutin Wildflower Stamp and Die Set, stamp several flowers, leaves and a bee with rose gold ink. I used the new Vicki Boutin metallic color wheel, because it has lots of different metallic ink colors to choose from. Then, heat emboss all the stamped images at once. Watercolor some of the flowers, if you like, then die cut your stamped images.
For this first card, I inked a new American Crafts embossing folder with sea foam ink. When you run the embossing folder through your machine, it inks the background (a tip learned from Jennifer McGuire). Then, I added Willow Die Cuts, stickers, and rose gold enamel dots to the dry embossed panel, and placed it on a card front.
The pretty pink Simple Pleasures paper forms the base of this card. I added a sticker to the journaling die cut, and layered it with a tag from the die cut ephemera pack. Attach the tag cluster with two flowers and three rose gold enamel dots to the card and you are done!
The last card has a script word background, found on the B side of the Ambrose Floral paper from the Willow collection. An oval frame die cut forms the sentiment on this card. By layering a die cut, tag, then the oval frame, you create a quick focal point cluster for this card. I then added the stamped bee and flower to add some more metallic shine to this card. I like to add some sort of metallic or shiny element to my simple paper layer cards, to create interest. The three rose gold enamel dots create a visual triangle around the focal point cluster.
The five steps for simple assembly line style cards:
Stamp and heat emboss at least seven images, like florals and leaves.
Watercolor with Vicki Boutin Watercolor Markers and a Water Brush
Die Cut the stamped images
Add a dry embossed or patterned paper panel to each card
Layer die cuts, stickers, stamped images, and enamel dots to each card
Thank you for joining me today for a set of simple cards with new supplies from the Willow collection, and Vicki Boutin.

Hello friends! Leigh here, to share an easy DIY travel theme poster for your wall. Teen and college age young adults love the retro and vintage vibe of Instax photos. So why not create a poster for them to display their favorite moments and travel memories on? They can clip up photos with ease and have a pretty display for their favorite room or space.
The new Poster Shop Four Corner Floral poster has such pretty watercolor images. It coordinates perfectly with the new She’s Magic collection from Dear Lizzy! I decided to cut out banner shapes from the gorgeous patterns in this collection. The Poster Shop collection also has lights to create your own DIY creations!
I fussy cut the tickets from the Round Trip paper, and added one to each cluster with a photo. There are so many pretty patterns to choose from in the She’s Magic collection! With 24 different patterns, I could add a unique hand cut banner to each of the photos. You can choose patterns that have colors that are complementary (opposite) the colors in your photos, to really make them pop! I chose pink for the photos featuring mostly green. Some of the photos are highlighted with a banner in the same color as the picture.
Have fun choosing different patterns, like the small blue floral near the Honolulu photo. I added a banner to the left or right to side of each photo cluster. You can add foam tabs under the tickets and heart punched pieces if you like. The smaller banners are punched with an American Crafts Knock Out Punch.
The bottom left of the poster shows Paris and Bergen, Norway. The Paris photo had to have the rainbow heart pattern banner to highlight how much we loved the city! I added a green ticket and a blue punched heart to coordinate with the colors in the Paris photo. Some of the clusters got heart punches, and some smaller banners. There are so many different tickets on the Round Trip paper you can pick a unique one for each photo.
The bottom right side of the poster shows Cornwall, England. I layered pink banners and hearts, once again, to contrast the green in the photo. I added a puffy sticker on top of the heart because we fell in love with England! I made sure to space out the pinks and dark blues around the poster board, so that it would feel balanced. You can cut the Instax frames from AC Glitter Card Stock or use a pre-made frame from Heidi Swapp.
I hope you have fun creating a poster for your next DIY project with the Poster Shop from American Crafts! Thanks for visiting today, Leigh.

Hello Vicki Boutin fans! Leigh here, sharing my final layout as a member of the Vicki Boutin Design Team! I have thoroughly enjoyed my time this past year! Just think, I used to think mixed media wasn't for me! For a whole year, I completed a mixed media project every week, and have learned so much along the way! I am so thankful for the opportunity to play with these amazing products.
For my final layout, I chose to feature many of the beautiful patterns in the Wildflower and Honey collection! Look at all the different patterns on one page, and you can see how gorgeous the whole collection is together! The red, orange, and yellow waves are thinner, and the waves get wider as they go down the page. Don't be afraid to hand cut your patterns into shapes for a layout!
I layered each color on a glass mat, and free-hand cut them into wave shapes. By layering one color under the other, I could make sure there was enough paper to cover the white background card stock. Once the waves are all cut, you can stitch around each piece with white thread to create some texture. Then, I adhered each wave piece with a thin strip of red-line tape along one edge , so the paper could be bent up to create more dimension. I then stamped the honeycomb from the new Wildflower and Honey collection stamp set onto a scrap of White Foundations Art Paper. I followed the colors of the wave pieces to match up the art crayon colors with the honeycomb stamp.
I added the photo and a long strip of computer journaling over the Foundations paper. The packaging from the Wildflower and Honey Embellishment Die Cut pack creates a mat for the photo. The Wildflower and Honey honeycomb washi tape holds the photo and repeats the honeycomb pattern stamped around the edge of the art paper.
The layered vellum butterfly stickers are spaced in three different areas around the layout to lead your eye and create some interest. I bent up the wings on the butterflies to show a hint of the watercolor underneath. By adding the vellum butterflies to the edge of the white foundations paper mat, you can soften the strong line between the rich colors of the background, and the white neutral of the mat. The honeycomb stamping also accomplishes this.
The gold washi tape at the top of the White Foundations paper serves as a grounding spot. I zig-zag stitched through the tape once the layout was all adhered. Once you have all the pieces attached to the background, you can bend up the edge of all the patterned papers to create more dimension. I hope you get the chance to play with the brand new Wildflower and Honey collection, and share your creations in the Vicki Boutin Mixed Media Community on Facebook!
Thank you for all your support and encouragement during my time on the Vicki Boutin Design Team!
