The Heritage line from Crate Paper by Maggie Holmes has exquisite colors and I tried out a modern design to highlight them.
Notice the curved shapes in the background. I custom-matched watercolor to match the paper in the Heritage collection.
STEP ONE: Hand cut your shapes from three colors of patterned paper. Stitch around the shapes. Lay them on the background without adhering to get an idea where to add your watercolor splotches.
STEP TWO: ADD watercolor in curved shapes around the background to coordinate with the patterned paper shapes.
STEP THREE: Add the photo and embellishments as shown above, and journal on the back or facing page if you like.
Hello friends! I have a new layout using the American Crafts Dear Lizzy Collection, called New Day. The line has beautiful magenta and teal tones, for a fresh color palette.
The teal background helps the photo pop, since the photo was taken in the snow. I placed the poinsettias in a wandering vertical line to point your eye to the photo.
You can see the dimension created by folding the poinsettias, a little tip I learned from Jeniffer Gallacher. The three spots of magenta on the layout help lead your eye to the photo as well. I added punched snowflakes to two of the poinsettias.
I like the metallic shine of gold with the magenta and teal colors on the page. There are several spots where the metallic gold is repeated throughout the layout. This helps unify the page. Have you tried a new color scheme lately? Give it a go! :)
In this close-up view, you can see the white gel pen journaling . It finished off the page, and ties in the white from the flowers and the photo. I piled embellishments from the New Day collection near the bottom right of the photo.
Hello fellow Scrappy friends! Today is a holiday to celebrate this memory-keeping hobby we all love, and I am so happy to be hosting the 1pm Challenge!
CHALLENGE: Easy Watercolor 3-D Paper Flowers Page with Leigh
I have created a free download for you, and a Process Video to show you step-by-step how to create the flowers for this challenge. I show the pink flower on camera- but the steps are the same for the hibiscus flower(glue each petal around a punched yellow circle).
The free printable download is on the left in the photo above and some of the supplies I used, from the Brooke Kit by Felicity Jane.
The photos are 1.75 inches square, and the Brooke Puffy Alphabet was used for the title.
I hand-painted the artwork above for you, and then vectorized it in Adobe Illustrator. It is a High Quality PDF at 300 DPI for printing if you click the download link and not right click on the image.
I tried the printable on Avery clear Sticker paper, Staples White Sticker Paper, and Hammermill Digital Copy Paper 32lb. and on normal and best settings and the printable came out clear and crisp. I appreciate all the positive and encouraging comments I receive from everyone in this Scrap Community, and hope you enjoy my little gift to you:)
STEP 1: If you would like, use a sponge dauber and ink-blend the border of your background card stock and set it aside to dry. (I used VB pigment inks, but use what you have on hand like distress inks to blend the border around the page)
Cut raindrop shapes with a FLAT top from the crepe paper ribbon (AKA streamers) 5 petals for each flower you would like on your page. I made three.
Watercolor with diluted color at first the curved edge of each petal. Then add a touch of more concentrated color to the wet edge and it will blend up into the crepe paper to create a slight ombre look. Lay aside to dry.
Watercolor the edges of some hand-cut leaf shapes with green color and set aside to dry.
Start on your pink flower (plumeria) and use tracing paper on your printable or use a sunlit window to trace onto the patterned paper of your choice. Once again 5 petals for each flower. I made two large and one three petal flower to tuck underneath the hibiscus.
Ink blend the round edge of each pink petal.
Punch a yellow circle for the center of each flower and small leaf or branch shapes for the stamen of the hibiscus. I used a 1inch for the hibiscus ( crepe paper) flower, and a 3/4 inch for the pink flower.
Assemble your pink flowers as shown on the video, bending each down the middle first and creasing with your thumb nail, then gluing one side down to the circle.
IF your crepe paper petals are dry, begin assembling them. I glued the bottom-facing side so the glue would not show and adhered each petal around the circle. Tuck the yellow stamen in before adhering the last petal.
Free-hand cut some palm leaf shapes from turquoise paper and trim little snips along each long edge to resemble palm fronds. Punch 6 tiny hearts to create a 6 petal small flower if desired and adhere to a base circle as with the other flowers.
Add die cuts and enamel dots or puffy shapes as shown and to the left of your photo add some journaling and the date.

My fourth project with the June 2017 Citrus Twist Kits Scrapbook
Main kit called "Boardwalk".
"Book Nook" 8.5x11 layout using the Scrapbook Main Kit and the Embellishment Kit for June 2017, featuring the Pink Paislee "Oh My Heart" collection by Paige Evans! Love all the embellishment you get in this kit!
The idea came to me to fold down the top left corner of the page and reveal the cute chipboard books from the "Oh My Heart" chipboard pack included in the Embellishment Kit. These cute embellishments spurred the theme of this page, about the little book nook I have created in our new house.
The exclusive Citrus Twist Kits puffy alphabet was created by
Pink Fresh Studios, and I lined the title up under the photo here. The cute sticker sheet from Jillibean Soup has lots of cute, small scale symbols perfect for planner, TN, and smaller size projects, so I used the small heart in between the two words of the title.
Paige Evans Oh MY Heart washi used to add a little color and pattern near the title.
Thank you for visiting today and jump over toCitrus Twist Kits to see more creations with the amazing June Kits.
I am on the design team this year for Citrus Twist Kits Scrapbook Kits, but they also have a Pocket Life Kit and a Gracebox, for Faith Based projects! Lots to choose from there at www.CitrusTwistKits.com
Two close ups of the gorgeous goodies included in this month's kits! That Maggie Holmes Chasing Dreams Floral Paper though! Love.
for "Lots of Layers" and the theme for this week: vehicles.
I love this challenge! I'll be honest. At first I was having a hard time with the vehicles part of the challenge. I mean, I could only find about four photos of our cars from the last 20 years! Then it hit me. Look at what story you want to tell. That began with a question.
"What memories are centered around our cars?"
We bring babies and groceries home in them, travel on family road trips, go out on dates, and to church on Sunday, and hop in them to start our lives together after the wedding with streamers flailing and cans rattling! After I found the 1950 photo of my Grandma and Papa, holding my Mom, I realized I could tell the story of our family cars over the last 66 years! OF course you don't need to span that broad of a timeframe. Brainstorm all the memories associated with your vehicles, and see how your story unfolds.
I really loved the mod feel of the 1950 photo, so I went with a 1950's inspired color scheme. The Starshine "Juno" paper had the perfect motif! The repeating diamonds on the left side of the layout utilize the tone on tone patterns from Shimelle's lines. Love the subtle effect! So thankful to my Grandma for being the faith leader in our family, and for so many wonderful years of kindness, gentleness, love, peace, joy, patience, goodness, and inspiration! Two hand squeezes means "I love you", and is something she taught me that I have passed down to my kids!
To keep the layout clean, I wanted to house all six color photos in the glassine bag with the journaling. I hand cut random size tags from the True Stories 6x6 pad. The crochet thread allows you to easily pull the tags out of the bag to read and view.
Lots of layers were used figuratively and literally, in the layers of time represented, and the tons of paper strips used behind the focal point photo. I also added more layers with True Stories word stickers, die cuts, and an epoxy paper clip from Starshine.
In the end, this page took me a lot longer than usual to create, but it was so worth it! I can't believe I have never realized how substantial the family vehicle is in our lives! Think about your life and the story you want to tell for future generations, and maybe even find a story you didn't know was there!

Thank you so much to Shimelle, for coming up with these challenges! If not for this challenge, I would not have this page that I cherish so much, and I am so thankful!l
I would love to see your take on this week's challenge! Share your link at the Facebook Group "Scrapbook Like A Superhero" or at Shimelle.com and happy creating!
Hope you have a blessed and fun filled day with your loved ones today!
I had so much fun seeing how many stars I could get on the page for this week's "Go Overboard with Stars" Challenge.
For the first layer of stars, I used Whipped Spackle texture paste, and a Silhouette cut file to create a star stencil.
Then I layered several other textures in star shapes as shown. Think vellum, patterned paper, stamps, stickers, and embellishments like the acrylic stars from Shimelle. In the photo above I used an X-acto knife to trim around the acrylic star, and don't you love how it is adhesive backed like a sticker? I do!
Next, I wanted to create more dimension, so I used the Counting Stars cut file from the Cut Shoppe, and backed it with Shimelle True Stories, and Starshine papers. Making sure to leave some of the stars open, adds another layer of interest.
Using the Minc Machine to add gold foil to the Shimelle cards created more texture on the page and repeats the star shape. Going for lots of repetition here!
Stamping near the three embellishment clusters around the page in navy, and aqua for another layer of stars!
Here you can see a close up of the title and photo layers. The Shimelle Fitzgerald Thickers are a favorite font of mine.
Stitching down the vellum stars with a zig zag stitch, and adding the punched cork stars, gave lots of interest to the page with a variety of textures.
Choosing to add the stars in different textures around the page was a lot of fun! How many different layers of this repeating shape can you get on your layout?
I can't wait to see what you all have to share, and your take on this challenge!
There will be so much scrapping going on this weekend,
Starting today!
My Shimelle 2016 Design Team Layout for the Arrow Challenge at Shimelle.com
goes live today!
This was an amazing challenge!
My project title is "High Roller" and that's our local landmark Ferris Wheel (Observation wheel).
For the Arrow Challenge this week and theme of local landmark, I wanted to use a photo of our local landmark the High Roller. Looking at the photo, I knew I wanted to try circles as a design element to highlight all the circles in my photo. I found the sunburst background cut file at the Silhouette Design Store and thought the rays mimicked the cables on the wheel. So now, before I even started the page, I had a direction for the layout.
When I cut the pattern on my Silhouette, I forgot to change the depth, and it didn't cut all the way through my paper. It was a happy accident though, because it led me to use an Exacto knife to cut out every other ray on the design. This gave me fewer rays to fill with punched circles and worked out better as far as how many colors I wanted to showcase. You can use 5 different sized circle punches to punch out different Shimelle Starshine and True Stories papers. It was so fun to pick from the large variety of patterns you get in each color. Arrange them behind each ray. I used quick dry glue to adhere just a part of each circle and lifted up the edges for added dimension.
I stitched around each sun ray that was backed with circles, and around the edge of the Starshine Mariner paper. Fold down the top portion of the blue patterned paper and pick cut apart strips to add around your journaling block. The title in white glitter Thickers makes sure that the colors on the layout stand out and adds another texture and sparkle!
Did I forget about the arrows? No, I added arrows to point to the photo on the sun rays without the circles. You can add enamel shapes or any Starshine Embellishments you like in between rays.
I added mine on the edges of the stitching to give more texture and interest to the layout.
Add a doily or other circular paper behind your photo and pop it up on dimensional foam. Then stitch underneath the title, and you have a completed page.
I like to try to think of new ways to use my supplies, and I hope you enjoyed this variation on the sunburst design. What ways can you think of to use cut files other than they were intended?
Happy crafting and Happy National Scrapbook Day Weekend!
and I am so excited to be invited to create with this kit!
